These are a few examples of transforms of sounds from the whale Physeter macrocephalus, also known as a Cachalot. All pictures here are from a recording made of "Fire Island Physty", graciously provided by Mr. Bill Rossiter of Cetacean Society International, and transcribed by Mr. Bernie Krause, PhD and Mr. Dennis Hysom. Yes, this is the Physty that stranded near New York City over 20 years ago. Physty made the usual extremely short duration clicks common among Cachalot, but he also made some 'fat' clicks and other sounds that are unusual for this species.
